EARLY DETECTION PREVENTIVE CARE

Girl with Dog

Our goal is to provide a better quality of life for your pet and your family. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by detecting medical problems as early as possible. This starts with a head-to-tail examination by the doctor and a consultation with you about what your pets’ specific needs and risks are. We will then recommend appropriate diagnostic tests, immunizations, dental care, diets, etc. to keep your pets in optimal health.

This early detection approach will increase treatment success thereby limiting your pets’ unnecessary suffering. Since pets are instinctually programmed to hide pain and cannot tell us when something is bothering them, we need to be proactive. Our hope is that all of the tests are normal. This not only gives us peace of mind but gives us normal results to compare to if the pet gets ill later. We may also be able to pick up on trends that are changing in the tests allowing early intervention. Based upon our findings, we can make specific recommendations for diet, exercise, treatment, behavior modification or further testing.

We feel that our role in your pets’ care is to assist you in making the best health care decisions possible.

RADIOWAVE SURGERY

We provide cutting-edge radiowave surgery. These techniques allow for faster healing time with less pain and bleeding. The radiowave actually seal both nerves and blood vessels as they cut. They allow more effective treatment of many conditions like tumor removal, corrective procedures (stenotic nares, elongated palates, eyelid reconstruction, skinfold removal, and anal sac removal), treatment of infections of the mouth and skin and many other procedures.

INTERNAL MEDICINE

Our internal medicine service allows for diagnosis of most medical conditions affecting pets. We begin with a comprehensive examination. The examination findings are then used to determine a diagnostic plan that usually can be done in our hospital usually within minutes or hours. Our hospital possesses up-to-date diagnostic equipment including a complete laboratory, digital radiology (x-rays), endoscopy, etc. After an accurate diagnosis is made, our complete pharmacy allows us to begin treatment immediately, whether treatment consists of outpatient care or intensive care in the hospital.

MAJOR SURGERY

Our sterile surgery suite is fully equipped with all the high tech tools needed to provide the safest surgical care. We have patient warming devices, numerous patient monitors, isoflurane gas anesthetic and certified technicians to monitor patients at all times.

Not only do we provide routine surgeries, like spay/neuter/declaw, but referral surgeries for local veterinarians like orthopedic procedures, radiowave surgery and major abdominal, thoracic and trauma surgery. Dr. Herrin has a special interest in surgery, especially orthopedic, and has developed his skills over his career to become as proficient as possible.

Our ICU allows patients to recover from surgery as comfortably and safely as possible. They are monitored and kept warm and cozy with appropriate pain relief until they are fully recovered. They are then sent home when appropriate with more pain medication. Pain relief is extremely important for proper healing.

ROUTINE SURGERY

Our high tech surgery suite and educated staff provide the safest surgical experience possible for your loved pet. We have many patient monitors, isoflurane anesthetic, licensed technicians, and patient warming devices to keep your pet as comfortable and safe as possible.

All of our routine surgeries receive a full examination, laboratory tests prior to anesthetic, pain medication during and after the procedure (even after going home), a nail trim, close monitoring during and after the procedure and a follow-up examination in 10-14 days for no additional charge. We do this because it is what your pet needs to have a safe and comfortable surgical experience. We do not feel that these things that make the procedure safer and more humane are optional.

DENTAL CARE

Our dental suite is equipped to provide the best and safest dental care for your pet. Over 80% of pets older than 7 years old have dental disease. Appropriate prevention and treatment of this dental disease has a huge impact on the length and quality of your pet’s life. Our technicians are specially trained to clean your pet’s teeth while they are anesthetized with isoflurane gas anesthetic and monitored closely throughout and after the procedure.

The doctor uses digital dental radiography (x-rays), root planing, extractions, medications and oral surgery treatment to treat problems that can occur in the mouth and keep your pet healthy.

We also carry a complete line of home dental care products and will counsel you on appropriate use of these items to keep your pet’s dental health at its best.

BEHAVIOR CONSULTATION

We provide extensive information about pet behavior with our initial puppy and kitten visits so that potential behavior problems are headed off before they begin. We also consult with clients that are experiencing unwanted behavioral issues with their pets. Through behavior modification techniques and appropriate medications, we can formulate a plan to help your pet be a well-adjusted member of your family.

Behavior problems are the number one reason that pets end up in shelters and we feel that with our help this can be prevented.

PHARMACY

Our complete pharmacy allows you to immediately receive the medications that your pet needs at competitive pricing. You will not have the inconvenience of mail order or going to another facility to receive most of your pet’s medications. We research and track all of the medications to provide your pet with the best. Whether you need dental care, heartworm prevention, deworming, grooming aids, or treatment for a medical condition we have what you need.

Our in-patient pharmacy allows us to properly treat your pet without delay if they should need to be hospitalized.

DIET THERAPY

Your pet’s diet is one of the most important things you can provide to ensure it has good health. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation about diets. We will discuss with you your pet’s age, activity, body condition and special needs and make dietary recommendations that will keep your pet in optimal health. We will then provide you a full line of Science Diet and Prescripton Diet pet foods to choose from. Whether your pet needs a special diet for a medical condition or just a breed appropriate puppy food, we’ve got you covered.

BOARDING AND GROOMING

As an extra service to our clients, we will board your pet when you are away or do minor grooming. Our boarding facility provides indoor runs, a separate feline area, clean and safe cages, bedding, Science Diet food, and hand walking for dogs at least twice per day.

Our grooming services consist of nail trims, shearing, trims, and bathing. Whether your pet is here for grooming or boarding, our trained staff will monitor their health and well-being and the doctor will appropriately treat problems that might arise. How could your pet be safer when you’re away than to stay in a clean, dry, monitored boarding facility with medical staff that is trained to detect and treat anything that might crop up? We can also medicate your pet while boarding if needed.

LABORATORY

Our hospital is equipped with a complete in-house laboratory that can provide you with test results within a few minutes. Our doctor and technicians can acquire samples, perform the appropriate tests and interpret the results while you wait. We partner with many specialty labs across the nation to provide special tests for the more complicated medical cases.

RADIOLOGY

We offer digital radiology to provide the most diagnostic x-rays as quickly as possible. Not only does digital radiology allow us to get more diagnostic images, we can easily involve a specialist through telemedicine.
